Convert PNG to ICO

Turn a PNG image into a favicon.ico that holds 16, 32 and 48 pixel versions in a single file, which is what browsers and Windows expect from an .ico. You also get PNG copies up to 512 pixels, and conversion happens on your device.

Drop in a PNG, JPG, WebP or SVG. A square image of 512 px or more gives the sharpest icons.

2️⃣

Choose how it is squared

Crop the image to fill the square, or fit the whole image with transparent padding. Pick the background used for the Apple touch icon.

3️⃣

Download the icons

Get 16, 32, 48, 180, 192 and 512 px PNGs plus a multi-size favicon.ico in one ZIP, and copy the ready-made link tags into your site.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I convert a PNG to an ICO file?

Upload the PNG, choose how it should be squared and download favicon.ico. The file packs 16, 32 and 48 pixel versions of your image, so one file works at every size.

Does the ICO keep the transparent background?

Yes. The icons are stored as 32-bit PNG images inside the ICO, so transparency is kept. Only the Apple touch icon gets a solid background.

Can I convert a JPG or SVG to ICO as well?

Yes. JPG, WebP and SVG files work too. JPG has no transparency, so the icon will have the image's own background.

Why is my PNG cropped in the ICO?

An ICO icon is always square. Crop to fill trims the longer side to the center, while Fit whole image keeps everything and adds transparent padding.
